VESTRY
Following the Holy Eucharist & prayer, the regular monthly vestry meeting was called to order at 7:09 p.m. on
February 23rd in Snyder Hall. Fr. Shackleford presided/R. Haren recorded. A quorum was present, including:
B. Davenport, M. Gordon, B. Haren (Jr. Warden), R. Haren, J.Hermes (Sr. Warden), S. Hermes, A.
Million, J. B. Pectol, R. Peters, & the Rev. R. Shackleford (Rector). M. Templeton was absent. January 19
minutes were approved.

Resignation/Vacancy: M. Templeton’s resignation letter was presented, accepted & sincere thanks issued for
his dedicated service. R. Haren was elected to fill the vacancy & will continue to
serve as clerk.

Committee Comments: Fr. Shackleford asked committee leaders to share one positive comment regarding
their committee:

Membership (J. Hermes/J. B. Pectol) - plans on working hand-inhand w/ outreach/evangelism to retain the
people they bring in; Youth (R. Peters) - has recruited the Diocesan youth coordinator for assistance/ideas;
Outreach/Evangelism (A. Million) - has set goal of 100% parish involvement in at least one activity; Pastoral
Care (S. Hermes) - 3 new people on committee; Parish Life (R. Haren) - Patronal Feast success with several
visitors; Christian Education (B. Davenport) - Recruiting people to join committee; Worship/Music (B. Haren) -
Retaining Frank Quillen as a committee member; Stewardship (M. Gordon) - Hasn’t given thought to it/hasn’t
been involved to this point.

Father’s Points: Reminded vestry that the position of any vestry member who misses 3 consecutive meetings
is declared vacant, automatically, by operation of the bylaws; String teacher has given $100 donation in
thanksgiving for use of the building; Transfer out - Nancy Barlow to Christ’s Church, St. Simon’s, GA; a new
visitor who has felt welcomed by all and is interested in learning more - remember in prayer; Volunteers
needed to prepare soup for Lenten suppers; Fire Marshall cited 4 minor infractions & Chip Perkins has taken
care of these (will explore with Chip the possibility of keeping a health/safety checklist); Integrity has issued
survey asking if churches are welcoming to gays/lesbians - A. Million suggested we reply with
a copy of our mission statement; to aid parishioners in praying the Daily Offices, Fr. has created a Brochure
(available in the chapel).

Vestry Retreat: Vestry should meet at the retreat center at 6 p.m. on March 26th, members will spend the
night; retreat will adjourn at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 27. Security: Proposal presented from Bryant Security;
discussion followed - will vote at next meeting

Building Stewardship/Beautification: After reviewing estimates, the vestry allocated $6,500 to move forward
with enclosing the vents in the sanctuary, creating niche for decorative angels, sheet rocking the
hall/entryway to the sanctuary, and removing broken water fountain. Will involve parish in building
beautification via angels, orange oiling wood in sanctuary, painting, & numerous landscaping projects.
Heating/Air: Estimates presented to correct HVAC issues; will have additional estimates for action at next
meeting.

50th Anniversary: Fr. communicated the need to book a speaker now for the 50th celebration and suggested
Al Skaggs, a humorous religious speaker that he heard at Tusculum. Fr. will check on availability/fee.
4th Sunday of Lent – Rose Sunday: Youth will head up a pancake lunch to be served after the service on
March 14th.

Bulletin/Crosstalk: Honorarium of $100/week authorized to B. Haren for preparing the bulletins & newsletters.
Fr. will recruit volunteers to attend phones throughout the week. Vestry wishes to recognize/thank Kay
Recher for her volunteer service staffing the office every Wednesday.

Financial Report: Treasurer’s Report presented and accepted - income has been increasing for the past two
months.

Following prayer, Fr. Shackleford adjourned the meeting at 8:27 p.m.
